What this doesn't tell you
- These count homes finished. They say nothing about planning permissions, homes started or homes knocked down.
- England's net additional dwellings, which adds conversions and takes away demolitions, is a different measure and is not shown here.
- Each nation's count follows its own definition, so a council is only put in order against its own nation's councils.
- Scotland's count of homes already standing is not shown, and Northern Ireland is not covered.
- A 2020-21 figure for North Northamptonshire, West Northamptonshire, North Yorkshire, Somerset, Cumberland, Barnsley, Westmorland and Furness, Sheffield: MHCLG printed 2020-21 under the codes in use that year, for councils since recoded or for the districts later merged into them, and those figures are not joined to today’s councils here.
How we worked this out
Every figure on this page is one its publisher printed, read from the file named below at a recorded position. Nothing is added, divided or estimated. Councils are put in order by their own nation's figure only.
