318 of 318 councils, largest first by the column chosen. * ONS prints these on the boundary before their 1 April 2025 change. Migration is for the year to mid-2025; births and deaths are registrations in 2025.
What this doesn't tell you
- These are estimates. ONS builds each year’s figure from the one before, adding births, taking away deaths and adding net moves.
- ONS says it will review how it shares international migration out between councils, and points readers to its migration estimates, which it labels official statistics in development, for how good these figures are (methods guide). Treat the council migration figures with some care.
- Births and deaths here are registrations in the calendar year, not the births and deaths inside the mid-year estimates, so the two do not add up to the change in population.
- The 2025 death figures are provisional and may be revised.
- This note prints the editions named at the top. A later edition may revise a figure; that would be a new note, not an edit to this one.
- Scotland and Northern Ireland are not covered.
- Deaths registered, 2025 for Isles of Scilly: ONS printed no figure.
How we worked this out
Every figure on this page is one ONS printed, read from the file named below and checked against the place it sits in that file. We have not calculated any figure. The only thing we count is how many councils registered more deaths than births.
